LÄHTENEET
The rural areas of Finland have undergone major changes in recent decades. People have moved to parish villages, large cities, and even abroad in search of work, and many small villages that were once thriving have withered away. The result is abandoned yards and deserted houses whose residents have either moved elsewhere or passed away. The traces remain, even though the people are gone.
In my staged photographs, I bring past times back to life, but at the same time I also tell that those times are over and will not return. I depict everyday scenes from the 1950s, yet the background and surroundings reveal that the images are not real. The past can be staged, but it cannot be restored. https://www.lahteneet.com/
The “Lähteneet” series was exhibited in four different galleries across Northern Savonia, Finland, in 2024. The upcoming exhibition will take place at Laterna Magica’s Tiiligalleria and Kellarigalleria in Helsinki, opening on January 6, 2026.
