In Johan Eichhorn’s photographic series Creative Destruction, human interventions in nature are transferred into everyday human spaces. A forest road runs through a bedroom, trees are felled in a kitchen, waterways are dammed in doorways, and a classroom floor is covered with asphalt. The people in the photographs carry on with their daily lives as though what is happening around them were perfectly ordinary.

The exhibition consists of 14 staged photographs and a video work. Forestry, construction, infrastructure, and other human activities that alter the environment are brought into spaces we ordinarily consider our own – spaces whose transformation we perceive very differently from changes made to the natural environment.

Creative Destruction will be on view at the Natural History Museum (Helsinki, Finland) from 1.9.2026 to 10.1.2027.
